We understand that dogs can be important family members, and often trusted working partners. Our goal is to ensure a great start in life for your dog, and to keep your dog healthy throughout their life. We’re also here to help you with any concerns you may have.  Wellness and preventive health care are some of the things we will discuss with you.

Special Concerns in Our Region:

Heartworm

This parasite is a real risk to dogs living in the Beausejour and Lac du Bonnet area.  It is transmitted by mosquitos, and the worms develop in the blood vessels of your dog’s heart and lungs. Dogs should be on a preventative medication from the end of May until the end of October every year.

Lyme Disease

The deer ticks responsible for the spread of Lyme disease are found in our area. Once the tick attaches, the bacteria causing Lyme disease are passed into the animal.  Lyme disease can be a difficult condition to manage.  Vaccines are available to protect your pet against infection.

Rabies

Rabies is a fatal viral disease that is easily prevented by vaccination.  Common animals infected in our area are racoons, skunks, foxes, coyotes, bats, and even bears.  We  see this disease in domestic animals such as cattle, horses, and dogs and cats that have not be protected by vaccinations.
