Equine Vaccine Recommendations

Please remember, each horse is unique. These are general guidelines, and feel free to discuss any questions with one of our veterinarians.

Standard annual vaccines:

• Eastern and Western Encephalomyelitis (Sleeping Sickness)
• West Nile Virus
• Tetanus
• Rabies *must be administered by a veterinarian

Pleasure and Performance Horses

Horses that will be in contact with other horses, or stabled with other horses, or going to training facilities, public horse grounds, trail rides, shows etc.

• Eastern and Western Encephalomyelitis (Sleeping Sickness)
• West Nile Virus
• Tetanus
• Influenza
• Rhinopneumonitis
• Rabies *must be administered by a veterinarian
• Strangles *optional – should be considered for horses traveling out of the province or in large groups of young horses.

Yearling, Broodmares, Breeding Stallions

Please take some time to speak to a veterinarian one on one.  Individual needs may vary and we can customize a vaccination protocol specifically for your horse’s situation.

PLEASE REMEMBER THAT ANY HORSE THAT IS RECEIVING A VACCINE FOR THE FIRST TIME NEEDS A BOOSTER SHOT 3-6 WEEKS AFTER THE 1^ST SHOT IN ORDER TO BE FULLY PROTECTED.  THE BOOSTER SHOT GIVES THE IMMUNE SYSTEM MEMORY.
